Manufacturing CPR Training

It is extremely important to be prepared for handling an emergency while working in a busy office or warehouse setting. Plus, you know how important it is that you’re in compliance with the current OSHA requirements regarding proper training of your staff.  We’ve got your covered on this and much more!

SoCal-CPR Safety Training provides on-site training to groups of 4 or more. You can of course take one of public classes held Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays at 9am or 615pm or Saturdays at 815am at our Burbank training center.
For those who have staff recertifying their skills vs brand new students, we also offer Online AHA blended CPR & First Aid training. Get more information on that program by clicking HERE or call us at (323) 559-5425 – Seven days a week

Now it’s time to consider is what safety skills you want your staff to know. Is CPR certification enough? For example, if injuries are a concern we recommend CPR & First Aid certification training.

Whichever you choose, you will get complete CPR & First Aid training in a fun and educational environment. Our experienced instructors will provide you with more than just the information but will help to instill confidence in you that you will be able to handle any emergency.

Our classes include complete CPR training and how to know the signs of an impending emergency. You will also learn what to do in an airway obstruction emergency. Included in every class is clear instruction for AED usage.

First Aid training is also available and includes but is not limited to: soft tissue injuries, bone and muscle injuries, medical emergencies including diabetic emergencies, anaphylactic shock (including how to use an epi-pen) and environmental emergencies.

Next is what agency should you get your employee training from. Since you work outside of the healthcare industry you typically have more options in where your CPR & First Aid training comes from. We offer you two training agency options.

EMS Safety Services

EMS Safety Services training programs are approved or meets the standards of the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Academy of General Dentistry, the U.S. Department of Labor – Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS). Another benefit is that their materials are extremely comprehensive while being easy to refer to when you need help.
Due to lower material costs, you get a lower per student cost too. Same training as AHA, just more cost effective. Plus we can offer you the certification cards the same day, even if we’re holding the training at your location.

American Heart Association
Everyone knows AHA, you can’t go wrong here.  There materials cost a little bit more since they add pocket reference guides with their manuals. We also need additional time to process AHA cards, they have to be printed out at our office – typical turnaround time is 48 hours.

Our instructors would be happy to bring training to your facility at no extra charge. These 3-6 hour classes are offered Monday through Saturday at a time that is convenient to you.

If you really want to be prepared, we also offer Disaster Preparedness consultation and planning. We can also maintain your first aid kits at your facility for a small fee – just one less thing for your to worry about, let us handle that!

Adult Daycare / Eldercare Facilities

SoCal-CPR Safety Training offers a full suite of services to your facility including CPR-AED use, First Aid skills, Bloodborne Pathogen training as well as Emergency Preparedness consultations.

We encourage ALL assisted living facilities to train their staff in CPR and the use of an AED.

We also realize that due to potential liability concerns your facility may not want to be trained in CPR-AED use. Currently in California they are required to do First Aid Training… but NOT CPR.

Why CPR should be taught at assisted living facilities?

1. If a resident requests that CPR be done to them in an emergency
2. If a staff member has a medical emergency that requires CPR.
3. If a family or friend visitor has a medical emergency that requires CPR.

Moreover, we encourage EVERYONE to learn CPR and how to use an AED as well as learn First Aid skills!  Either way, we are ready to get your staff prepared to act in whatever emergency you might typically face.

We offer both EMS Safety Services as well as American Heart First Aid & CPR-AED certifications – your choice, either way you’ll be well prepared.

First Aid training includes but is not limited to: soft tissue injuries, bone and muscle injuries, medical emergencies including diabetic emergencies, anaphylactic shock (including how to use an epi-pen) and environmental emergencies. Additional info

From a study of the AED industry, the standard appears to be that many nursing homes, elderly housing complexes or assisted living facilities still do not have an AED policy or program.   In 2007 a summary study within the industry showed:

http://www.jamda.com/article/S1525-8610%2807%2900207-1/abstract

Contrarily, here is an Ohio-based Midwest article on AEDs & some facilities who have decided to implement AED programs:

 http://www.redorbit.com/news/health/358076/many_nursing_homes_lack_device_to_restart_heart_portable_defibrillators/

Now, not taken into consideration is the question regarding “duty to provide care” – and what is really the up-to-date 2014 standard to provide care as it relates to AEDs or CPR in these facilities?

*  Are there any industry mandates taking place? What is the healthcare industry doing about AEDs?

*  What are the trends for DNR orders or Attempted CPR- are the number of DNR orders going up or down as a % of population being admitted to healthcare facilities?  Should nursing homes or long-term care facilities have solid AED programs in place due to a decreasing % of DNR orders and more patient preferences to attempt CPR?

In January 2010 there was a great article that showed how UCLA is implementing AED programs across their system, due to the improvement in SCA survival they offer. UCLA Article

Nursing Studies Show AEDs improve SCA response times (this is an additional Nurse.com article on SCA & AEDs in the industry)

I have also read many articles/studies in recent years on in-hospital SCA survival versus out-of-hospital survival and perhaps UCLA is trying to improve SCA survival and change the statistics, which show IN-HOSPITAL survival is lower than OUT-OF-HOSPITAL per many studies.  The above link shows the obstacles facing nurses and staff and why AEDs may be a welcome addition to healthcare facilities.

Regarding long-term and elderly facility industry practices such as DNR advanced directives are followed.  But, methods for identifying CPR status need improvement to enable accurate identification and prompt resuscitation of residents who want CPR:

http://www.gnjournal.com/article/S0197-4572%2898%2990117-3/abstract

It is known that ACPR is infrequently performed in long-term care setting and is rarely successful (successful being defined as admission to the hospital alive).  Survival (defined as discharge from the hospital) is also rare but survival does occur though. All nursing homes are not required to offer ACPR and many nursing homes in the United States, as well as in other parts of the world, do not offer ACPR.

Agencies such as the American Bar Association’s Commission on Law & Aging show that about two-thirds (2/3) of the adult population does not have an advanced directive or DNR.  I could not find any recent studies to answer my DNR questions on DNR preferences.

Recent mandates or pending mandates and “encouraged use” Bills have passed in recent years in the following states that are for assisted living facilities or long-term and medical facilities:  Texas, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Florida and others.

Perhaps it will some day become an expectation for all long-term facilities to have an AED and perform CPR but for now, it appears that each facility has to make their own decision but for sure they should consider their state’s legislation or pending legislation as it affects licensing for their facility.

One excerpt of a study states, “Surveys have shown that many elderly in different parts of the world want to be resuscitated, but may lack knowledge about the specifics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Data from countries other than the US is limited, but differences in physician and patient opinions by nationality regarding CPR do exist.”  In the essence of observing the opinions of those elderly that do want to be resuscitated – perhaps there will be some marketing advantage to employ by organizations that implement AED programs.

Real Hospitality Includes the Safety of Your Guests

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), or a heart attacks kill approximately 365,000 people in the U.S. alone each year AND can strike anyone. Even a seemingly healthy person can suffer cardiac arrest without warning. According to the American Heart Association, as many as 50% of SCA victims have no prior indication of heart disease, their first symptom is cardiac arrest.

The only definitive treatment for SCA is a defibrillation shock often initially provided by an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).  These units can deliver an electrical pulse to the heart, which can restore a normal heart rhythm. The chance of an SCA victim’s survival decreases by 10 percent for every minute that passes, so in order to be effective, defibrillation treatment must be administered within the first few minutes of SCA.

Having an AED readily available in your hotel or restaurant, and having your employees trained in CPR and AED use, can make you confident. If one of your guests suffers from a sudden cardiac problem, you can dramatically improve their odds of surviving.

Also, it would be extremely helpful for your staff to be able to provide basic first aid to a guest.

Business CPR Training

It is extremely important to be prepared for handling an emergency while working in a busy office, anything can happen and usually when you least expect it.

  • For those who have staff recertifying their skills vs brand new students, we also offer Online AHA blended CPR & First Aid training.

  • EMS Safety Services
    • Is one of the top safety training agencies in the USA for the last 20 years.
    • Due to lower material costs, you get a lower per student cost too. Same training as AHA, just more cost effective. Plus, we can offer you the certification cards the same day, even if we’re holding the training at your location.
  • American Heart Association
    • Everyone knows AHA, you can’t go wrong here.

We can also maintain your first aid kits at your facility for a small fee – just one less thing for you to worry about, let us handle that!
